Co-Parenting?

My dad refuses to let me get a bunny, so I've been doing some research on pet rats. I've been talking to my friend, and we think it would fun to buy a couple of pet rats to share. Do you think we would be able to work that out somehow? Thanks!
BTW, she does live pretty far away (def. not within walking distance) if that helps.
Oh, we just decided that we would keep both rats at one house.
